Human capital in the context of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals


Human capital consists of the knowledge, skills, and health that people accumulate over their lives, enabling them to realize their potential as productive members of society. The article reveals the role of human capital for sectors, countries and societies. The purpose of this article is to determine the overall level of the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and indicators that reveal information about human capital in Ukraine and determine the strategies for the development of human capital in the context of achieving the SDGs. The bene?ts of human capital transcend private returns, extending to others and across generations. It is emphasized that components of the Human Capital Index have close links with the SDGs. It is concluded that in today’s conditions, inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all; healthy lives and well-being for all at all ages are becoming important issues. It is noted that investments in human capital have become more and more important as the nature of work has evolved for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Particular importance is attached to ?nancing education and health; promoting non-?nancial reporting by adapting EU legislation; monitoring the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals; the implementation of UNCTAD recommendations and indicators for the corporate sector in national economic regulation systems; the preparation of the ?rst Voluntary National Review, etc. It is emphasized that the development and use of human capital contributes to social progress, sustainable economic growth and ensures employment and e?ective management, which is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
