Current issues of Ukraine’s cooperation with the IMF during the challenges and threats of COVID-19


The statistics have been directly extended to Ukraine by the IMF during the times of challenges and threats of covid-19. The forecast calculations of the economic situation in the countries of the world and in Ukraine in connection with covid-19 according to the versions of the IMF representatives and domestic analysts are presented. The author has highlighted the role of loans granted by MFIs as part of signing a new Memorandum on Economic and Financial Policy in 2020. The structural beacons to be fulfilled by Ukraine in accordance with this document have been identified and characterized, focusing on the key task of maintaining macroeconomic and financial stability, which covers such areas as monetary and exchange rate policy, budgetary, structural policy, and reforms in the energy sector, policy in the financial sector. The author has considered the terms of providing loans to individual countries of the world, in particular under the following lending programs: Stand-by, EFF, FCL, ECF in order to prevent crises and maintain the balance of payments. An alternative option for further cooperation with the IMF on the basis of the draft Strategy of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine “Graduate from IMF” for 2021-2023, which is positioned as a successful completion of the current program of the Fund and the transition to full market financing on attractive terms; end of work with the IMF.
