Academician A. A. Chukhno scientific school: theory and practice

The article highlights major milestones in the life of the prominent Ukrainian scientist and economist A. A. Chukhno (1926—2012) and studies the essence, main achievements and the significance of the school established and headed by the academician in economic and financial sciences. It is defined as a fundamental and scientific school for the period of the 70-s of the XX century — the first decade of the XXI century. The core of A. A. Chukhno’s scientific work and, consequently, his scientific school constitutes a thorough system development of methodology issues of economic science (philosophy and logical frameworks for economic theory, the subject and its history, methods of learning, the teaching of paradigms and paradigmatic changes, the synthesis of theory, etc.), the analysis of the economic mechanism, the formation of a new institutional and evolutionary research program of economic and financial theory, the transition to a postindustrial society. It is shown that in the studies of A. A. Chukhno and members of his scientific school a prominent place was given to the analysis of the issues of finance essence and role, modern finance and public finance management, the global financial and economic crisis of 2008—2009. It is proved that these studies were carried out from the perspective of the need to improve the scientific and theoretical level and practical significance of economic and financial theories, implementation of the latest scientific achievements in the economic practice and educational activity. The article reveals the originality and validity of the author’s interpretation of the transitional period under the conditions of market transformation of the socio-economic relations in Ukraine. It is found that the characteristic and at the same time distinguishing feature of the research of A. A. Chukhno and his scientific school is the consideration of a radical change in the place and role of the human and his/her work in the process of formation and functioning of postindustrial (information, knowledge) society. It is proved that an important feature of the research is an in-depth analysis of the market economy as the hybrid that implements market principles through activating the role of the state and the strengthening of social orientation.
